I’ve decided to construct an image that summarizes the movie “Her” (2013) and I’m working on a sketch of how the image will look like. Set in the Los Angeles of the slight future (2025), the story follows Theodore Twonbly, a complex, soulful man who works as a writer of touching personalized letters who can’t put their feelings into words. At work he’s praised for his personal touch; at home he’s coming off a bad divorce to Catherine, his long-time childhood sweetheart. He installs the brand new world’s first artificially intelligent operating system – called  OS1 – onto his computer, he’s just looking for a way to get his life in order. Upon initiating it, he is delighted to meet “Samantha”, a bright, female voice, who is insightful, sensitive and surprisingly funny. As her needs and desires grow, in tandem with his own, their friendship deepens into an eventual love for each other.

Theodore has been through a hard time that his days are spent switching between melancholy soundtracks and he can’t even bring himself to sign the divorce papers.  He tries to keep track of his life: having phone sex, going on dates, talking to his neighbors, etc. but then he falls in love with a home appliance designed to serve him and make his life easier. The movie creates a brand-new obstacle to romance: our hero falls deeply and passionately in love with a disembodied machine consciousness. And by shifting all the story’s early drama onto how they could possibly make their love work, it’s able to take its time providing the simple but deeply felt pleasure of watching two people fall in love.

What I have to do next is to find models for the photographs and edit them using Photoshop. Fingers crossed!!!
